Pipelayer

General

Reporting to the Foreman, the Pipelayer is responsible for preparing and installing underground pipelines in preparation for road construction or other civil municipal projects.

Using their knowledge of pipe laying techniques, the Pipelayer ensures the ground is prepped and trenches are correctly dug out for pipe systems. The Pipelayer cuts, aligns, connects, seals and buries stormwater, sanitary, and water mains and associated works.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Lay out pipe routes, following specifications or blueprints, and coordinating layouts with the Foreman
  • Cut pipes to required lengths
  • Align and position pipes to prepare them for connections and sealing
  • Check slopes for conformance to requirements, using levels or lasers
  • Grade and level trench bases, using tamping machines and hand tools
  • Connect pipe pieces and seal joints
  • Tap and drill holes into pipes to connect auxiliary lines or devices
  • Cover pipes with earth or other materials
  • Train others as required in pipe-laying techniques
  • Other General Labour and construction related duties as required.

Education, Training and Certifications

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred
  • Class 5 Drivers License, or equivalent, preferred Work Experience
  • 2-4 years’ experience in underground pipe laying preferred
  • 3-5 years’ experience in road construction preferred

Working Conditions

  • Out of town travel as required.
  • Overtime as required.
  • Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust, concrete and asphalt.
  • Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 50 LBS on a regular basis.
  • Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required.
  • Use of sunscreen, long sleeves, and appropriate headgear is recommended.
  • Must comply with the company’s drug and alcohol testing requirements.

  • Has a solid understanding of, and comply with the principles of the Company Rules and Safety Program.
  • Examines situations in light of the principles of the Company Rules and Safety Program.
  • Promotes, executes and adheres to the company’s safety program, and encourages all employees, subcontractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.
  • Attends toolbox safety meetings and inspections.
  • Works with Foreman and Safety Officer to investigate damage, incidents or near misses in the worksite, and ensure proper procedures are carried out according to the Company’s Safety Program.
  • Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself, or endanger the wellbeing of others.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent, Seasonal

Salary: $18.00-$24.00 per hour
